Yesterday, Thursday 25th February, a meeting was held between the Board of Trustees of the Fundación Biblioteca Social (Social Library Foundation), of which I have the honour of being a member. This not-for-profit institution, contributes towards redressing social imbalance by supporting projects carried out by public libraries and directed towards the most vulnerable sectors of society. For this reason, the Foundation, among many of its other activities, awards the “Public Library and Social Commitment” Prize, which in 2015 was awarded to the Buen Pastor Library in Barcelona for its project: “Weaving a Network of Opportunities”. Currently, the second edition of this prize is being prepared.
During yesterday’s meeting, a new line of support was drawn up for public libraries which will be developed during 2016.
