This past Monday 19th of March, we celebrated in Barcelona my first IFLA President’s Meeting as President of the International Federation of Library Associations.
245 librarians from 7 different continents participated in this motivating session. Libraries as Motors of Change, my motto as President was the starting point for this impressive programme, which culminated in the presentation of IFLA’s Global Vision report. The report, based on 21,771 online responses from 190 member states of the United Nations across 7 continents, observes that libraries from around the planet are truly united in our goals and values and therefore it is necessary to connect local and global actions effectively, as well as pinpoints 10 highlights and 10 opportunities that were identified for the library sector.
The President’s Meeting has opened the door to a river of proposals, ideas and creativity for the different representatives of the IFLA sections present at the meeting. These proposals were collected and shaped during the workshop on the 20th and 21st of March and represent the start of the development of IFLA’s new Global Vision for the coming years.
Inspiration, energy, union, ideas and strategy. From Barcelona, libraries around the world driving the change in our societies.
